Connecticut State Police are investigating a fatal accident on Interstate 95, reported at 11:43 a.m. A female driver was killed when her car went out of control and came to a stop in front of an oncoming tractor-trailer.
The accident has resulted in I-95 southbound being closed at exit 16, so all traffic is being sent onto East Avenue. It reopened after 3 p.m.
In Westport, police sent out a warning that congestion on the Post Road East is heavy. At 12:30 p.m., traffic was backed up at several intersections throughout town.

The accident occurred where Route 7 southbound enters I-95 southbound.
Norwalk Deputy Fire Chief Ed Prescott, who visited the scene, said it appeared that after the woman's VW Jetta entered I-95, her car struck another, causing her car to spin out and strike the center median.

Prescott said a tractor-trailer then struck her car on the passenger side. He said the tractor-trailer driver locked-up his brakes, but it took about 200 feet for his rig to come to a stop, with the Jetta being pushed in front of it.
"He did all he could," Prescott said of the truck driver.
A Norwalk police officer reached the woman's car and broadcast that she was unconscious. A short time later, a fire department officer broadcast that the state medical examiner needed to be called.
