Board of Ed Set to Approve Budget Feb. 8

The board continued its talks Monday night.

Westport's Board of Education continues to talk about the budget for the upcoming 2010-2011 school year and is scheduled to adopt the document Feb. 8.

At Monday's regular meeting, the board unanimously approved moving $358,400 from the operating budget to the capital budget — a change that allows the board to ask the town for less money than originally proposed by Superintendent Elliott Landon.

However, the budget is not final and several changes could be made between now and next Monday.

The board also unanimously approved increasing the teacher reserve salary fund from two to three teachers, which is an extra $68,000 cost.

If no other changes are made, the board's 2010-2011 budget would require a 2.17 percent increase over the current school year's $94.6 million budget.

That's different than Landon's proposed budget of a 2.9 percent increase, totaling $97.3 million for the 2010-2011 school year.
