Staples Field Lights to Finally Light the Field

The field lights will be used for the first time for the varsity football team's game against St. Joseph High School of Trumbull starting at 7 p.m., according to a report in the Westport News.

After , the field lights will be illuminated for the first time on Sept. 14, according to a report in the Westport News.

The lights, which are mounted on four poles measuring 70 to 80 feet, will be used for the Wreckers' varsity football team's game against St. Joseph High School of Trumbull starting at 7 p.m., according to the report.

Use of the lights, however, will be restricted to 10 p.m., as per a lawsuit brought against the town by neighbors of the school, located on North Ave., who objected to the original proposal to install them.

Last fall the Westport Planning & Zoning Commission and approved a stipulated judgement settling the lawsuit.

As per the judgement, the lights can be used no later than 8 p.m. on any day of the week from Sept. 1 to Dec. 1, and no later than 10 p.m. on Saturdays, on a limited basis, for football games and special events only.

It was a long battle by many good Westport Staples field light supporters. It has been a pleasure being part of this struggle and proves that if you keep at it we the citizens prevail. Now we need one more fundraising campaign for the new food concession. Go Wreckers ... Thank You Westport.

I feel sorry for the neighbors that will now have to deal with the noise and light pollution.
