Students asked to create a poster involving the Rotary's "4-Way Test" of ethical behavior

Prizewinners in the teen “4-Way” Poster-Design Contest co-sponsored by Westport Sunrise Rotary and Westport Public Library were announced this past Saturday, June 18, at the Westport Public Library. On hand for the event were Library Director Maxine Bleiweis, Sunrise Rotary President Arlo Ellison, First Selectman Gordon Joseloff, State Representative Jonathan Steinberg, and State Senator Toni Boucher.

Staples High School senior Timothy Yang won the first prize of $250, while SHS senior Madeline Mafilios took the second prize of $100. The 8th grade team of Nico Ader of Coleytown Middle School and Louie Mason of Bedford Middle School won the third prize. In addition Ader and Mason won the People's Choice Award of $100, which was voted on by the public during the first three weeks the posters were displayed and identified only by number.

Sunrise Rotarian Dennis Wong spearheaded the contest. A three-judge panel including Westport graphic designer Miggs Burroughs, Westport News columnist and Staples High School (SHS) boys soccer coach Dan Woog, and Christ & Holy Trinity Church pastor John Branson selected the winners.

Students were asked to create a poster involving the Rotary's "4-Way Test" of ethical behavior. This test asks four questions of what we think, say, or do: 1) Is it the truth? 2) Is it fair to all concerned? 3) Will it build good will and better friendships? 4) Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

In addition to their cash prizes, all winners will also receive two one-hour group sessions on graphic design with Burroughs.
