Staples High School receives Drury Awards for Excellence in Radio Broadcasting

Staples High School’s WWPT radio station has won four Drury Awards for their work in high school radio broadcasting.  Staples had national finalists in five of ten award categories, and received awards in four of those five. 

The winners include:

 

Best Sports Talk (3rd Place):  DJ Sixsmith, Mike Nussbaum, Eric Gallanty (Two Guys and a “Gal”)

Best Sportscast (3rd Place):  Eric Gallanty (Sportscast Update)

 

Best Radio Drama (Adaptation) (1st Place):  David Roth’s Acting Class and Jim Honeycutt’s Audio Production Class (A Christmas Carol)

Best Radio Station Advisor  Mike Zito

 

Although this is the first year Staples has entered, it was the seventh year of the John Drury High School Radio Awards, which were created to recognize excellence in high school radio broadcasting. The entries are judged by industry professionals. 

 

WWPT (“Wrecker Radio”) is broadcast on 90.3 FM, or can be listened to online through the Media Lab page on the ‘Student Life’ tab of the Staples High School website (shs.westport.k12.ct.us/staples/).
