It is common for Staples soccer players to earn all-state honors, but not so common for Wreckers' goalkeepers.

Junior James Hickok was named to the Connecticut Soccer Coaches Association All-State team. According to the Staples' website, he is the first Wreckers netminder to be honored by the CSCA since Alex Deegan in 1990.

Hickok recorded 12 shutouts while allowing just 13 goals in 21 games this season. Staples was eliminated by Farmington in the second round of the Class LL state tournament.

The Connecticut All-State players will be honored Jan. 29 at a dinner at the Aqua Turf Club in Southington.

"I’m very glad for James,” Staples coach Dan Woog told the team's website. “He’s worked tremendously hard on all aspects of his game — from dominating the box to distribution to communication. He’s got a fantastic mentor in our keeper coach, Tom Henske, and this honor is really a tribute to both of them.”
