Westport Little League Wins New England Tourney, Headed to World Series

The Westport Little League All-Stars are headed to Williamsport, Pa. to play in the Little League World Series, after defeating Lincoln, R.I. 1-0 Saturday night.

Riding a 14-strikeout gem by pitcher Chad Knight, the Westport Little League All-Stars outlasted Lincoln, R.I. Saturday evening to win the New England regions and will head to Williamsport, Pa. for the national Little League World Series.

Knight was dominant throughout, and even recorded the game's sole run-batted-in during the 1-0 victory, but his pitching brilliance was nearly matched by Rhode Island's Dominic Cunha who had nearly a dozen strikeouts of his own.

The game was played in Bristol, Conn. and broadcast on ESPN. Westport will be one of eight regional teams to play in annual Little League Classic, which begins in Williamsport on Aug. 15.

Westport is making its first appearance in the Little League World Series, but it will have a strong legacy to uphold. Connecticut has won four Little League World Series, and only California has more titles with seven.
