LINKS Connections for Independent Living Launch

The board of LINKS Connections for Independent Living, Inc. is inviting seniors and members of the community to join them for our kick-off event, Sunday February 26th from 4-6PM at the Unitarian Church, 10 Lyons Plains Rd, Westport. We will celebrate with a fun event with live entertainment featuring Chris Coogan and the Hoot Owls, with wine, hors d’oeuvres, and giveaways.

LINKS is an aging in place non-profit organization serving seniors in Westport and Weston, based upon the “village” concept which originally started in Beacon Hill, Massachusetts and which is popping up around the country.  Locally there are successful organizations operating in New Canaan and Greenwich.  The idea is to allow seniors to age in place; in the home they love, in the community where they have established roots.  LINKS is a membership driven organization which will offer personal service to seniors as they grapple with everything from leaky gutters, to health needs to bothersome computer issues.

“With one phone call, members will be put in touch with whatever they need at the moment,” said Bunny Thompson, Board Chair.  “One of the hardest issues for seniors is finding reliable service people.  We will have a list of committed, vetted painters, carpenters, etc.  We will also follow up to be sure services are satisfactory and reasonable.  Now there’s peace of mind!”

LINKS is not just an organization for its members but governed and steered by its members. LINKS also will be partnering with existing town human resources departments and other organizations to enhance and coordinate their efforts.  LINKS will also be sponsoring unique events and get-togethers for its members.
