Four Involved in Shooting With Rifle at Greenwich Car Dealership

Unusual arrests and investigations from the area.

Authorities were arresting a man on nine outstanding warrants when he allegedly couldn't pay his $500 strip club bill, when he told them the White House would be calling to inform them of his Diplomatic Immunity. The White House never called. *** A woman is accused of stealing $1,084 in merchandise from Kohl's in Trumbull on May 6. Police said she put clothing in bags, entered a dressing room and walked out holding the bags. Her bond was set at $7,500. *** A man was charged for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license after he slowly fell off his moped while driving down the Post Road in Fairfield. Teens on Naugatuck High School Roof Arrested for Trespassing

Some of the more "interesting" police reports this week.

  Five Naugatuck teens were arrested on trespassing charges after police said they were caught on the roof of Naugatuck High School, attempting to do free running. -- A Hamden man was arrested for firing a gun to scare two children who were on his property looking for a stick to fix a broken bicycle.  -- A man in Milford was arrested for stealing a $130 pair of boots from Sears at the Westfield Connecticut Post Mall.  -- A Milford man was arrested in North Haven for allegedly drinking and driving. Two days later, the department arrested him again – this time for allegedly shoplifting.  -- A Stratford man was arrested last weekend for allegedly filiming up an unknowing woman's dress at the Westfield Connecticut Post Mall in Milford.   -- A …

Stamford Murder-Suicide Reported

Police believe 57-year-old Stamford woman shot her 85-year-old mother, then herself.

  A 57-year-old Stamford woman shot her mother in the back with a double-barreled shotgun and then turned the gun on herself, police said Friday evening. Florence Beran, 85, was confirmed by Capt. Richard Conklin as being the owner of 1214 Long Ridge Road and victim of what police are calling a murder-suicide. Beran's daughter, Susan, is believed to have committed the act because the house was in the middle of a tax sale, the family more than $50,000 behind on their taxes. Conklin confirmed the family had recently had the electricity turned off. The scene was discovered around 1 p.m. Friday when a uniformed officer was responding to a call from a concerned neighbor who had lent the family money previously and knew they were in a difficult …

Two Westport Neighbors Arrested Following Physical Dispute

The two neighbors will have to appear in court for their argument, which allegedly got physical.

  Westport police charged Xenofon Tziolis, 52, of 35 Burnham Hill, and Meredith Cohen, 39, of 37 Burnham Hill, with disorderly conduct Tuesday following a neighborly dispute over construction work being done next to their common driveway, police said. 911 Tapes: Welcome to the Dark Side

Do news organizations that publish 911 call audio help or harm the communities they serve?

The initial shockwave that swept through Fairfield County last week after the Ramsey family tragedy changed to disgust following the decision of area news outlets to publish the graphic 911 recording, during which Mrs. Ramsey told the dispatcher that her husband was lying dead “in a pool of blood.” Patch received access to the tape but did not publish a link to it. As an American writer who considers the First Amendment our most cherished right, I believe that making 911 tapes available to the public is essential to community safety; however, are we not also human beings? Did the tape need to be released so soon after Mr. Ramsey’s tragic demise?  And how—if at all—did the tape’s release advance the public’s understanding of this heinous …

Westport PD Find Illegal Weapon, Marijuana on Norwalk Driver

The officers initially located the paraphernalia when patting the man down for their safety, but the suspect eventually gave officers consent to search his vehicle.

  Westport police charged Wayne Smith, 55, of Norwalk, Tuesday morning with weapons in a motor vehicle after police observed him not having a front registration plate on his vehicle. Smith was stopped on I-95 northbound between exits 19 and 21. During the course of the stop Smith was patted down for officers’ safety and police located marijuana, pipes, and a prescription pill bottle with various pills in his pockets, police said. He gave officers permission to search his vehicle, which turned up a four inch "butterfly" knife that was in the center console, according to the police report. Erratic Driver Nailed for DUI on I-95 in Westport

After swerving over three lanes on I-95, Westport police initiated a traffic stop in order to speak with the suspicious driver.

  Westport police charged Yvonne Dehaas-Ferris, 45, of Fairfield, just before midnight May 6 with operating under the influence, failure to obey control signal and failure to drive in the proper lane after an officer saw her vehicle stopped completely over the stop bar at the intersection of Park Street and Saugatuck Avenue while she was waiting for the overhead traffic signal to change, police said. The vehicle was completely over the bar painted on the roadway and her vehicle was in the intersection, according to police. Westport PD Arrest Bridgeport Woman Cashing Fraudulent Check at Chase Bank

The woman told police she was cashing the check for a friend who was going to give her a portion of the cash in return.

  Belynda Constant, 26, of Bridgeport was charged Friday morning with fourth-degree larceny, sixth-degree larceny, second-degree forgery and criminal impersonation after police caught her trying to cash a fraudulent check at the Chase Bank at 188 Post Road West. Westport police officers located Constant in the lobby of the bank and took her into custody. She told officers that her friend, an unknown person, gave her the $1,760 check to cash and in return she would get a portion of the cash, police said. State Police Request Public's Help in Finding Suspect

Connecticut State Police have a warrant for Edward Taylor, 21, of Bridgeport, on charges of third degree assault, criminal mischief and breach of peace, in connection with an incident that occurred in April at Housatonic Community College.

State Police at Troop G in Bridgeport are asking for the public's help in locating Edward Taylor, 21, whose last known address is 145 Pleasantview Avenue, Bridgeport. Taylor, a black male, is believed to be in the Bridgeport area. State police have a warrant for his arrest on charges of third degree assault, criminal mischief and breach of peace, in connection with an incident that occurred in April at Housatonic Community College. Anyone with information is urged to notify State Police Troop G at (203) 696-2500. All calls will be kept confidential.

Three Overnight Burglaries in Greens Farms Area of Westport

The Westport Police Department received complaints of two more overnight burglaries in the Greens Farms section of town Monday morning.

  The first burglary was reported on Green Farms Road, where the homeowner reported that someone entered their house through an unlocked door and stole laptop computers while they were sleeping, according to Capt. Sam Arciola. A second burglary was reported at a Devon Road residence, where the garage was entered through an unlocked foyer in the house. Several of the resident’s vehicles were entered and police on Monday were trying to determine if anything was taken, Arciola said. These burglaries occured roughly 24 hours after a Sunday-morning burglary that also took place on Devon Road, where cash, a laptop computer and a Honda Civic were reported stolen between the hours of 4 and 6 a.m. It is important to note that these criminals are …
