Westport Unveils Newly Renovated Train Station

The pre-Civil War building includes new solar roof panels that also power new electric vehicle charging stations.

 

First Selectman Gordon F. Joseloff announced today that a ribbon-cutting has been scheduled for Monday, April 1, at 1 p.m. for the newly renovated Metro-North Westport eastbound station house in Saugatuck.

Planning and approvals for the project have been in the works for years. The pre-Civil War building includes new solar roof panels that also power new electric vehicle charging stations.

In addition to Joseloff, invited speakers and dignitaries include Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, state Department of Energy & Environment Protection Commissioner Daniel Esty, state Department of Transportation Commissioner James Redeker, state Sens. Toni Boucher and John McKinney, state Reps. Jonathan Steinberg and Gail Lavielle, and members of the Westport Solar Team.

“The renovated train station is ‘green’ and on the cutting edge,” said Joseloff.  “Solar panels will provide the power for the interior of the station house, platform and parking lot lighting, and four electric vehicle charging stations outside.”
