Drunk Westport Resident Takes Police for a Ride

Westport police reports: Feb. 6-8.

  • Robert Lorenz, 48, of 3 Bittersweet Lane, Westport, was charged with DUI on Feb. 8.  officers responded to a report of driver slumped over behind the wheel of a stopped vehicle in the intersection of Bridge and Compo roads. Police found Lorenz in the driver’s seat, unresponsive, with the vehicle’s engine idling with the transmission in drive gear.  Lorenz awoke and accelerated slowly through the intersection while officers ran alongside the vehicle yelling for him to stop which he did just short of striking a light pole on the right shoulder of Greens Farms Road.  He then shut off the vehicle and rolled the driver’s window down. Officers were unable to comprehend his mumbled speech and could smell a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath. Lorenz failed the field sobriety tests and was taken into custody and subsequently refused to submit to a breath test. He was unable to post bond and was brought to Norwalk Superior Court Wednesday morning for his arraignment. 
  • Andre Martinez, 41, of Bridgeport, was charged Feb. 6 with third-degree larceny and third-degree burglary. An arrest warrant was served for Martinez at Norwalk Superior Court in reference to an incident in September 2009 where he allegedly was involved in a burglary at a residence in Westport. He was held at court on a $50,000 bond pending his arraignment.
  • Carmelaime Labbe, 21, of Bridgeport, was charged Feb. 6 with two counts of second-degree failure to appear. Labbe was stopped on Post Road East when police learned of her two warrants for failure to appear, one from Bridgeport and one from Trumbull. The original charges were for motor vehicle violations. She was taken into custody and was later released after posting a $1,500 bond for court Feb. 17.
