State police requested assistance from the Westport Police Department at about 4 p.m. Sunday in an effort to stop several motorcyclists that were driving recklessly and travelling at speeds over 100 miles per hour on I-95, according to a police report.
A few of the motorcycles were reported to have gotten off exit 18 southbound. A Westport Police Officer located three motorcyclists who had exited I-95, but when he attempted to stop them they took off at a high rate of speed and began passing vehicles over the double-yellow line, police said.
The officer was able to stop one driver, who was identified as 33-year-old William Brown, of Stamford. Brown was taken into custody and charged with disobeying the signal of an officer, reckless driving, operating an unregistered motor vehicle and operating a motorcycle without a license, police said.
Brown was released on a promise to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on October 31. He was then turned over to State police.
