Westport Driver Ignores Road Markings, Gets DUI
The driver's eyes were red and glassy. He failed the field sobriety tests and was taken into custody, police said.
An officer on patrol early Sunday morning witnessed a driver traveling southbound on North Ave., weaving from left to right, crossing over the yellow and white lines of the designated travel lane, according to an arrest report.
Once stopped, the officer noticed a "distinct and pronounced odor of an alcoholic beverage" on his breath, police said. His eyes were also red and glassy, according to the arrest report.

The driver failed the field sobriety tests and was taken into custody, police said.
Westport police charged 45-year-old John Hein, of 14 High Gate Road, with driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to carry a driver’s license and failure to drive in the proper lane, according to police.

Hein was released after posting a $360 cash bond. He is due in Norwalk Superior Court Dec. 13.
