Westport Man Arrested For Car Crash, False Statement

The suspect reported a vehicle stolen, but the police investigation revealed that he had been operating the vehicle when it rolled over, according to police.

Westport police charged 23-year-old Kyle Dexheimer, of 61 Morningside Drive South, with reporting a false statement, interfering with an officer, evading responsibility and other charges following an accident in August that he was allegedly involved in.

Dexheimer reported a vehicle stolen, but the police investigation revealed that he had been operating the vehicle when it rolled over on Long Lots Road and struck a stone wall and a road sign, police said.

Dexheimer was also charged with traveling unreasonably fast and failure to drive right after he turned himself into the Westport Police Department Sunday on two active warrants.

Dexheimer was released after posting a $2,500 bond for the criminal charges and a $5,000 bond for the motor vehicle charges. He is due in court October 22.
