Age doesn’t matter

Age doesn't matter: it is never too late to make a decision to be healthy, fit, active and happy.

I used to train a man in his late 70′s. This was someone who had served in a couple wars, was an old school type of guy and had gained significant weight. His mobility was VERY limited and I obviously had to be careful with every workout. We first changed his breakfast and his daily alcohol habit. At first, you could tell he probably didn’t want to be there and his wife had forced him to go.

He was no doubt one of my greatest challenges. He used to joke about his age in a negative-joking-mocking type way. As we progressed, and he saw the weight melt off, he started become way more positive.

In 8 weeks with me, he lost 25+ pounds. That was impressive, but more than that was his attitude had completely changed. He was genuinely more happy, more upbeat and excited about the change he had created.

What I am trying to tell you today is that AGE does not matter. It is just an excuse, a mental block from letting you realize that you have a decision to make: you can take action, or can use that excuse forever.

I’ve always hated the whole “I’m not in college anymore so…(insert excuse as to why they have gained 30+ pounds)”. What? What does that even mean? My goal is get you in better shape than you were at college. There is no job, relationship, kids, hobbies, etc that should prevent you from being fit and active. Seriously. What’s more important to you?

When you analyze what’s important in life, hopefully your health; physical, mental and emotional; are near the top of your list. If they aren’t, then you have no place being here and I hope one day you will shift this mindset…call me when your 70 and we’ll make it happen.
