Fitness Isn’t Seasonal Pt. 2

Fitness isn’t seasonal. The same people who weren’t getting up at 5AM in the dark of February are the same people who are complaining “it’s too hot out” in July.

There is no reason why your hard work, training, etc should slow down because it’s nice and hot out. I am not saying you have to be in a gym 5 days a week but…

I do, however, advocate getting OUTSIDE of the gym as much as you can. Hit the beach for sprints. Do kettlebell swings/bench jumps for 10 rounds at the park. Grab a paddleboard, do a circuit on the board and combine overhead squats with the paddle. Try a new sport.

There’s a difference between those two.

Some people will say “Hey, it’s Summer. I worked hard…” and then go off the wagon with BBQ’s, beers, parties, minimal training and tons of crap food.

Come September, they look and feel the same or worse than a couple months prior, feeling lethargic, slow and tired. They may even complain about the PROGRAM (yes — I’ve seen it), without looking at what they’ve done to themselves.

You can’t take off an entire season and expect to stay on the same path you were in.

So, have fun. Do your things. Enjoy the family. Grab a couple (gluten-free) beers. But, remember your priorities. Remember, 80/20 (80% of the time stay perfect and compliant and you’ll hit the sweet spot for results).

“Another summer weekend just came and went and now here we are yet again, on a Monday morning…With yet another opportunity to change things for the better; to make the dramatic improvements that you have been planning to make for so long. Maybe you thought about it over the weekend when you drank too many beers or ate too many hot dogs at your neighbors’ barbeque.” – Jason Ferrugia
